Since my blog is mostly about traveling, so for this Audio story assignment, I planned to talk about my experience of visiting Australia with my family during last Christmas holiday. The reason I want to make this my topic is I love traveling so much and I used to live in Perth when I was little, so Perth is always my second home with all my family members. I would love to share my story of traveling back to Perth with my classmates and hopefully you guys will like it and want to travel to Perth too!
First of all, I interviewed my boyfriend two questions about the trip with me and my family to Australia and then I collected all the audio recordings of myself and him into a folder. I added all my recording files and placed each recording on its own track on adobe audition. I changed the position of my recordings to put them together by using the move tool at the top toolbar. I deleted some of my recordings by using the razor tool next to the move tool, but for the small part, I just used the move tool to drag the last bit of the clip inward. When this part is finished, I realized my recording is too short, so I decided to record myself a little more. When I’m done with the recording, I clicked on “mute” button on the left side of my recording track to listen to only one track each time, which is my new recording. I used the razor tool to remove my pauses and some unnecessary words such as “hum” “so” to make it sound better. After editing all my recording into the right position, I could finally add the music to my recording.
I found my music on http://www.orangefreesounds.com”, since we are not allowed to download copyrighted music, I found this website where we could download music for free and it is also permitted for other uses. After I am done choosing the music I want to use, I added the music file to my project, dragged the music to a new track. I then moved the music to the beginning of my project, so that I could hear the music before my recording starts. In order to make sure that my sound effects could blend well with my other recordings, I adjusted the volume by moving the yellow line down to make it lighter. Later on I realized I need to change the effect of the sound to make it blend in better, therefore, I faded the sound by clicking the top left square and made an arc to make the sound go lighter. I also did this at the beginning of the music.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed doing this project, the audio tutorial is very helpful, I kept on going back to the tutorial videos to check if I’m doing right. The most challenging part of making this audio draft was to adjust the sound and the volume. Because I did my recordings at different time, my voice sounds different, therefore I had to keep moving the yellow line up and down to make sure my voice sounds the same. I am so proud of myself for making this and hope you guys like it!
I like the background sound you used to have the sound of the ocean’s waves playing in the back of the audio. The audio story does seem a bit rushed and the audio escalates about one third of the way in. When you say, “After spending a week…” the audio quality changes and it kind of catches me off guard with the change in the volume too. A suggestion I have is to make the entire conversation you are saying to be on the same volume level or perhaps rerecording that section to have an easier flow. Another suggestion is to maybe slow down you’re talking because it seems a bit rushed and a lot of information feels like its being thrown at you. Other than those two suggestions I really do like the background sound of the oceans and I liked how you included an interview with your boyfriend for his thoughts on the topic as well.

I am quite impressed with this! The background waves and tone ties it perfectly! It fits your Perth theme quite well. If you’re purpose is to motivate people to visit Perth, I definitely was able to envision myself laying at some beach there and petting the kangaroos that are located there. I would work a little bit more on the audio levels. It’s very abrupt in the beginning of the question/(where a new clip was put it in), but then it tones down therefore I would focus on bringing the audio levels down on like the first couple of seconds and go from there. I would also suggest just starting your story and cutting off “the story I would like to share with you today” and just starting your story or introduce yourself as part of your intro. I think it would make things flow a little better. Overall good job!

Hello Anyi,
I like your passion and excitement in your topic about travel and the way you told your story with your accent made it all the more tangible and authentic. I love traveling myself so it is cool to see people get excited. I also have always wanted to visit Australia and listening to you made it even more so.
I like the detail you put into your story as I think it gives the audio more sparkle and character than a typical recording might have.
Your audio feels a little rushed and your start comes out quickly. I do love the background noises of the ocean waves and soothing music as it elevates the experience. Your volume and tone can be a little loud at times so maybe think of making the volume all one level so it sounds cohesive and not abrupt or distracting.
I really enjoyed listening to your recording and I look forward to hearing the final product from you.

I really enjoyed your story about your trip to Australia. It was very informative and detailed, your descriptions of Australia and the things you visited on your trip was very well explained for the audience to imagine what you are talking about. Some things I really liked about your audio draft were how you went from a story in your point of view to an interview about the trip in your boyfriend’s point of view. One thing I would suggest is maybe a different background sound because the one you have is kind of slow. Also I would suggest to talk a little slower when you are telling your story because it souds like you were talking really fast.

After reading through the feedback from the members in my group, I found the suggestions very helpful for me to improve my Audio Story Project. I am very happy and satisfied with my audio story but still, there are three aspects I will be working on this week to make this project even better. First of all, I noticed that my story does seem a little bit rushed and the speed of my talking gets even faster about one third of the way in. Secondly, the quality of my voice changes right before the second part, and also the volume changes too. Therefore, in order to improve my story better for the final draft, I am planning to lowering my volume down for the second part to keep the volume all at one level, so it sounds cohesive or less obvious that I connected two recordings together. In addition, I want to change the beginning of my story. I will introduce myself as part of my intro, just to give the listeners better information of who I am, and what story I will be telling for this project. One thing I really like about my project is the background music, the sound of the ocean waves, it fits my theme and also gives the audiences a comfortable feeling while listening to my story. Overall I find the peer reviewing feedback very useful and I will be starting to revise my project to make it better!
